New Office 2016 Home & Business features in the Mac release include an updated user interface that uses the ribbon, full support for Retina Displays, and new sharing features for Office documents.

 

In Word, there’s a new Design tab, an Insights feature, powered by Bing and co-authors in real-time. In Excel, there is a Recommended Chart and PivotTable Slice feature. In PowerPoint, there are theme variations, which provide different color schemes for a theme. In Outlook, there’s a new Time Suggestion feature, the ability to view calendars side by side, and weather forecasts in calendar view.

Outlook 2016 for Mac has very limited support for synchronizing collaboration services outside of basic email.

With version 15.25, Office for Mac switches from 32-bit to 64-bit by default. Users who require the 32-bit version for compatibility reasons will be able to download version 15.25 as a one-time, manual update from the Microsoft Office website.] All versions after 15.25 will be 64-bit only. Office for Mac received Touch Bar support in an update on February 16, 2017, following the launch of 2016 MacBook Pro models. The 32-bit version of Office for Mac will not run on macOS Catalina; so version 15.25 is the earliest version of Office for Mac that will run on the latest version of macOS.

Minimum resolution assumes zoom, DPI settings, and text scaling are set at 100%. If not set to 100%, the minimum resolution should be scaled accordingly.
